Thirukurugur (Alwar Thirunagari)



Thirukkurugur temple is situated about 1 mile from Azhwar Tirunagari station on the Tirunelveli - Tiruchendur rail route, or 3 miles from Srivaikundam.

The Moolavar is Aadinathan, Aadipiraan, Polindhu-ninra-piraan, seen in standing posture facing east. It is believed that the feet of the Lord are within the ground. There is a sannadhi for Nammalwar. Every month, there are special pooja on the natchathiram (star) of each Alwar. Arayer Sevai, (a visual enactment of the passionate expression by Vaishnavite saints which were an integral part of Vishnu worship 1000 years ago) is performed here. Prabandhams & Purushasuktham are recited to talam during the Thirumanjanam.
