Kalakendra celebrates the timeless magic of stories and story tellers, this World Story Telling Day.
Of the many ways in which we learn new ideas and expand our creative and
intellectual horizons, the one that appeals the most to all of us
irrespective of our age is learning through stories. Indeed, it is what
we learn through stories that stay with us for years, remaining vivid in
our memories because of the images they invoke in our minds.
Free previews of different story telling styles that will appeal to listeners of all ages.
Saamarthiya Kadhaigal
is an interesting collection of moral based stories for children
rendered in Tamil by E.Jothi. The ancient Indian tradition of Harikatha,
is among the oldest forms of storytelling which integrate music, mime
and literature, elevating the text from being merely a literary work to a
complete aesthetic experience. Choice vignettes from Dushhyant Sridhar's contemporary rendition of Harikatha Srinivasa Kalyanam and the legendary T S Balakrishna Sastrigal's inimitable rendition of the Bhagavatam.
Excerpts from Kalki's Tamil classic, "Sivagamiyin Sabatham",
forever enshrined in the hearts of millions of readers across the world
as one of the best works of Tamil historical fiction.
With great joy at being able to do our bit to promote traditional forma of story telling,
